Who are we?
Chris Walton – Landmatters – Managing Director
Chris Walton was born in Brisbane and enjoyed lots of childhood adventures in the wild spaces of South-East Queensland.
As a boy his family had a building and development business. Chris reckons he grew up with a “nail bag” on his belt with his hard working family.
Chris undertook tertiary business studies in Property Valuation at Queensland Agricultural College where he gained distinction in his efforts. Chris then joined the Queensland Government Land Administration Commission serving throughout the state as a Land Inspector and Registered Property Valuer. He later worked in a variety of private sector property roles including valuation, agency, property management and development.
Throughout his working life, Chris has travelled extensively with many years spent overseas sampling the pleasures of many other places and cultures and keenly observing the different styles of life around the globe. During these adventures Chris came to realise the simple hard fact that globally, we have very little time left to achieve sustainable living.
14 years ago, Chris and his wife Kerry became concerned about the spread of poorly conceived and created urban development and quit criticising industry and government and started researching around Australia and the world to establish a model residential estate that exemplified “World’s Best Practice” in sustainable development.
Their small private company, Landmatters Pty Ltd has implemented The Ecovillage at Currumbin, a residential community of 144 homes on the southern Gold Coast that has now won 26 local, state, federal and global awards for Industry and Government.
In Amsterdam in 2008 Chris was awarded the highest honour in world real estate, the International Real Estate Prix d’Excellence for Environmental Development.
Chris’ expertise in property, his efforts in sharing sustainability and his learnings through public and industry education have earned him the inaugural Queensland State Minister/Premier’s Award for Leadership in Business Sustainability and the City of the Gold Coast’s Mayor’s Award for Environmental Achievement.
Andy Kidd, Master of Arts, member of ABSA

Andy lives in a rural home powered by sunshine and fed by rain water, and so from first hand experience realises the simplicity and workability of living sustainably. He is passionate about informing others how to reduce our footprint on the environment while maintaining the high standard of living that we are accustomed to .
Andy studied his Master of Arts in Social Anthropology in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has travelled widely. He has volunteered as project manager of Fair Trade and Sustainable Development in Africa; he has lived with a hunter gathering tribe and researched the livelihood of subsistence fishing communities in the Philippines; he has joined a desert reclamation project in Spain. These and other endeavours have taught him about the necessity of education in regards to our relationships with our environment.
Recently Andy has worked with the Department of Energy and Water to give sustainability advice to householders. Now he offers his experience in the business world, where potential economic savings and reduction in negative environmental impact are greater.
